The knocking / loud ticking happens as I'm either transitioning from power to braking of from braking to power. Only when the pistons are unloaded. I've been working on trying to track this sound down for a week now, checking lifters, vtc components, injectors, everything. At this point I'm down to preparing for the worst.
I got this motor for free three years ago when my Z was dead, 160k with an unknown history. It got me running again, which I was goad for. I've put a good 30k on it since then, I think I'm lucky it got me this far.
